EA Anamnesis: An Approach for Decision Making Analysis in Enterprise Architecture
نویسندگان
چکیده
Enterprise Architecture (EA) modeling languages can express the business-to-IT-stack for an organization, showing how changes in the IT landscape impact business aspects and vice versa. Yet EA languages provide only the final architectural design, not the rationale behind this design. In earlier work, we presented the EA Anamnesis approach for EA rationalization. We discussed how EA Anamnesis forms a complement to current EA modeling languages, showing for example design alternatives, EA artifact selection criteria and the decision making strategy that was used. In this paper, we extend EA Anamnesis with a capability for organizational learning. In particular, we present an integration of two viewpoints presented in earlier work: (1) an ex-ante decision making viewpoint for rationalizing EA during decision making, which for example captures a decision and its anticipated consequences, and (2) an ex-post decision making viewpoint, which for example captures the unanticipated decision consequences, and possible adjustments in criteria. We use a fictitious, yet realistic, case study to illustrate our approach.

Capturing Design Rationales in Enterprise Architecture: A Case Study
We aim for rationalizing Enterprise Architecture, supplementing models that express EA designs with models that express the decision making behind the designs. In our previous work we introduced the EA Anamnesis approach for architectural rationalization, and illustrated it with a fictitious case study. In this paper we evaluate our approach in terms of its ability to capture design rationales ...
متن کاملGoal-oriented Decision Support in Collaborative Enterprise Architecture
Decision-making in the field of Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a complex task. Many organizations establish a set of complex processes and hierarchical structures to enable strategydriven development of their EA. This leads to slow and inefficient decision-making entailing bad time-to-market and discontented stakeholders. Collaborative EA delineates a lightweight approach to enable EA decision...
متن کاملA Framework to Support Business-it Alignment in Enterprise Architecture Decision Making
Features of current business environment are quarterly economy, organizational changes (e.g. mergers, acquisitions, structural changes, outsourcing), pressures for business-IT alignment, cost-effectiveness, changes and improvements in technologies and practices (e.g. service-oriented architecture). The rapidly changing environment all organisations must operate creates a situation where an archi...
متن کاملInsights from a Study on Decision Making in Enterprise Architecture
Although there are many frameworks for Enterprise Architecture (EA), they focus mainly on the holistic structure of an enterprise and rarely take decision making into account. This is surprising, given the large role that (design) decision making seems to play in EA. A lack of empirical work offering insight into decision making in practice might be the cause of this. To address this knowledge ...
متن کاملProviding EA decision support for stakeholders by automated analyses
Enterprise architecture management (EAM) is a holistic approach to tackle the complex Business and IT architecture. The transformation of an organization’s EA towards a strategyoriented system is a continuous task. Many stakeholders have to elaborate on various parts of the EA to reach the best decisions to shape the EA towards an optimized support of the organizations’ capabilities. Since the ...
